Evie's Latest Adventure

To UCLA!

Jamie here, Evie's youngest sister. Evie has an adventurous week ahead! Her mastectomy is this week. She and Bob will head down to UCLA on Tuesday for the surgery early Wednesday morning. If all goes well, she'll be released Thursday and sleeping in her own bed Thursday night, with the hope of being able to sit at the table a week later for Thanksgiving dinner.

We'd love your prayers.

  • for a straightforward surgery (it will be one surgery with two surgeons)

  • for Dr. Farnaz Haji, breast surgeon

  • for Dr. Christopher Crisera, reconstruction surgeon

  • for Evie's mind to be calm going under general anesthesia and for her to experience peace from the Prince of Peace

  • for her body to keep on taking everything in stride

  • for Bob as he leads her care/translates doctor speak/remembers everything the doctors tell him

  • for Henry as he's two nights without his parents (but in the care of his wonderful godmother Gabby + his grandparents)

If anyone would like hands on participation, you all have been so generous with your time and resources that I'll shamelessly ask for a few things I know would be a sweet help for her.

  1. I've learned there's such a thing as a mastectomy robe whose features include side pockets for the all-important drainage tubes once she's home. Keeping those drainage tubes in peak condition is basically the make-or-break for good healing. Evie would need a S/M and I got her to tell me she'd prefer a black color. Do send me a note if you'd like to ship to her so she doesn't get duplicates. :)  Black robe here in size S/M.

  2. Also, she'll need to sleep upright for a while. I found this wedge pillow that would help keep her super comfortable for the considerable time she'll be in bed. Same with this one, let me know if you'd like to purchase so she doesn't accidentally get duplicates. :)

  3. Meal Train for the family once they’re home.

Thank you for reading this and for loving Evie. She told us this morning that she's feeling good and ready to get on with it. Let's cheer her on!

PS - Just a reminder, Marcie (sister #2) and I monitor the inbox at evieonanadventure@gmail.com. Feel free to ping us anytime with notes for Evie, questions, etc.
